ASQ's New Membership Model: Getting What You Pay For
Recently ASQ National changed their membership model and several people have had questions about what the options mean. In summary, here is what each new membership type and options looks like:
* Full Membership is $129 and is just like the membership you have had for years. The Regular member category continues the tradition of ASQ membership while adding flexibility and value to the member experience. A hard copy of the Quality Progress will be mailed to you and you will belong to one local Section and one Forum/Division.
* Associate Membership is $74 and members receive benefits only by electronic means from ASQ National. Associate members are not a member of a local Section. The Quality Progress can be viewed from ASQ's website and you will get e-mail from ASQ National. You will not receive any local mailings (i.e. Kansas City's Quality Matters) or any local e-mail.
* Associate Membership plus a local Section is $94 ($74 +$20). These members receive benefits from ASQ National by electronic means and they receive mail and e-mail from the local Section. If you chose this option, you must tell ASQ that you want to be in Section 1301 to get the Kansas City mailings.
* Forum Membership is $31 and is designed for individuals who have an interest in quality focused within a specific industry or topic, as represented by a Forum/Division. Forum members are not a member of a local Section. You will not receive any local mailings (i.e. Kansas City's Quality Matters) or any local e-mail. Forum members do not get the Quality Progress. Benefits are provided by Forums or Divisions (i.e. Quality Management Division) and are electronic, although some face-to-face interaction and networking opportunities may be available.
* Forum Membership plus a local Section is $51 ($31 + $20). These members receive benefits from ASQ Forums or Divisions by electronic means, but they also receive mail and e-mail from the local Section. If you chose this option, you must tell ASQ that you want to be in Section 1301 to get the Kansas City mailings.
FAQ 1: Why I am not receiving any local information from ASQ (Kansas City's Quality Matters newsletter)?
Answer: If you are an Associate or Forum member you are no longer on the Kansas City Section's mailing list. You can re-join the Kansas City Section by paying an additional $20 to ASQ and telling them you want to be in Section 1301 (Kansas City).
FAQ 2: Why am I a member of the Wichita Section and no longer a member of the Kansas City Section?
Answer: ASQ National uses your geographical location to determine your membership section. If you live or work in Kansas, they may have assigned you to Wichita. Call ASQ National at 1-800-248-1946 to change your Section to Kansas City (1301).
FAQ 3: What are Forums/Divisions?
Answer: Forums or divisions are focused within a specific industry or topic. The Audit Division, Inspection Division, and Quality Management Division are just a few that you can join. A complete list of Forums/Divisions can be found at www.asq.org.
FAQ 4: Can I become a Senior or Fellow if I am not a Regular member?
Answer: No. Only Regular members can become Seniors or Fellows.
