ASQ St. Louis Spring Conference

The ASQ St. Louis Section 1304 Spring Conference, Tomorrows Quality Today, will be held on April 20, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM at the Hilton Doubletree and Conference Center, 16625 Swingley Ridge Rd, Chesterfield (St. Louis), MO 48017.

Kansas City Section 1301 Member Benefits

Are you an ASQ member who is not receiving email updates regarding Kansas City Section activities and events?  It may be that you have a membership type of Associate or one of the Organizational memberships (Site, Enterprise) which doesn't include the Kansas City Section membership. 

ASQ organizational member employees who are current Full, Senior, or Fellow ASQ members are encouraged to keep their individual memberships to maintain benefits like:

• Quality Progress (print version)

• Participation in sections, forums, and divisions

• Voting rights

• Elected volunteer opportunities

• Continuity of membership for unemployment and retirement dues relief programs and for advancement to Senior and Fellow membership levels

University of Central Missouri (UCM) - ASQ Student Chapter
Global Book Donation Project

On March 17, 2011 the ASQ headquarters donated 166 books to the Global Book Donation Project which is organized by the ASQ Student Chapter at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg. All books are new, quality management and statistics related.  ASQ Kansas City 1301, a student section sponsor, provided $100 for the shipping cost. 

This project focuses on the books in Quality Management, Technology, and Engineering disciplines. The purposes are to: 1) distribute donated books and media to people worldwide who desperately need yet cannot afford them; and 2) support student learning activity in serving the community. After the books are logged into the system, the first 30 books will be delivered to the university in Ghana.

Project Leaders Joseph Owusu, George Yiadom-Boakye, and students Sneha Chitturi, Carlos Cervantes, Paresh Kumthekar, and Lacey Eidson unpacked and checked in the donated items.

Washburn University is a primary resource for continuous improvement education in Topeka and the surrounding area. Professional development courses in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) are offered by the Office of Academic Outreach and School of Business in a partnership that provides academic and programmatic support to ensure excellence in content and instruction. Course instructors include area ASQ members.

Participants in Lean Six Sigma programs receive a certificate of completion issued by the University once they have demonstrated content knowledge and applied methods and tools in the work world.

Courses are also available to organizations by contract.

The LSS program is a unique joint venture with Washburn University, the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses to "provide education, support, and direction in the Topeka area to develop, grow, and attract a quality and customer focused community". There have been over 50 companies and over 1000 individuals who have benefited from the program.

I am excited to contact you about a new pilot project being conducted for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) schools in Kansas City. Project Lead The Way's mission is to ensure that America succeeds in the increasingly high-tech and high-skill global economy, by partnering with middle schools and high schools to prepare students to become the most innovative and productive in the world.

We are partnering with YouthFriends, a regional youth mentoring program, to implement eMentoring with students taking PLTW classes. We are targeting volunteer engineers in engineering professional societies to help us with this project.

Volunteer engineers will be matched with PLTW students to help them complete a class project. The project will include weekly email exchanges over the course of 8 weeks. Questions will focus on the e-mentors specific engineering field as well as their personal experience as an engineer. We are currently looking for 50 volunteer engineers to help launch the pilot project in Harmon and SchlagleHigh Schools in KCKS.

ASQ Reliability Division

The Reliability Division is the largest group in the world who promotes reliability training and education.  The division provides reliability articles, webinars, discussion boards, and regional activities to relay current reliability trends and practices.
